Our Story

Chad, Melissa, Astin, Anders, and Adair

My name is Melissa Crawford and my husband is Chad Buckner.  We have three children, Astin (14), Anders (11), and Adair (8).  We have been on an adventure for many years seeking the best way to educate our children and create a sense of purpose and a passion for life.  We’ve homeschooled for years and tried many different school communities along the way. There have been great aspects to each of them, but there was always something missing.  Our children needed peers and community and something more to strive for. And then a friend called to tell us about Acton. It was everything we dreamed a school could be. It weaved it all together and it was an existing model!

Laura and Jeff Sandefer, entrepreneurs in Austin, TX weren’t happy about the school options for their children so they made it their mission to reinvent education… an education about finding purpose and passion and a calling to change the world!  Learning shouldn’t be rote memorization, but it should be an inspiring journey of discovery… AN ODYSSEY!!! That’s what we want for our children and yours. An Odyssey that begins today… let’s reimagine education together!!!!
